A Chance to Learn Can Change a Child’s Whole Future

There is something powerful about seeing children excited about school.

For some families, getting a child into school is not as simple as buying a uniform and paying school fees. It can mean choosing between food and education, struggling to find money for books or facing the difficult reality of raising a child alone.

For children with disabilities, the barriers can be even greater.

A child may have the ability and desire to learn but still remain at home because the family cannot afford school requirements, assistive support or the additional costs that come with their education.

This is why education remains such an important part of our work at ChildCare Foundation Uganda.

We support vulnerable children and children with disabilities to access and remain in school. This includes helping with school fees, scholastic materials, uniforms and other needs that can make the difference between a child attending school and staying at home.

But our goal is bigger than simply getting a child into a classroom.

We want children to have the opportunity to discover what they can become.

A child who is able to stay in school can gain knowledge, build confidence and begin to see possibilities beyond the challenges they face today. For a child with a disability, access to inclusive education can also mean being seen for their abilities rather than being defined by their disability.

We have seen how much it means when a child knows that someone believes in their future.

But there are still many children waiting for that opportunity.

Behind the numbers are real children with dreams. Some want to become teachers. Some want to become nurses, business owners, farmers or professionals. Others simply want the chance to sit in a classroom, learn with their friends and feel that they belong.

That chance should not depend entirely on the family a child was born into.
