In many classrooms, a child may sit quietly, withdrawn, or overwhelmed. Not because they are unwilling to learn, but because the environment around them feels too loud, too fast, or too difficult to process.
For children living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, everyday situations that seem normal to others can be overwhelming. Simple sounds, crowded spaces, or sudden changes can create anxiety and distress. Yet, these behaviors are often misunderstood—seen as stubbornness or lack of discipline instead of a call for understanding.
Across Uganda, many families raising children with autism face challenges in finding schools and communities that are truly inclusive. Limited awareness, stigma, and lack of trained support mean that many children are left behind, not because they lack ability but because the environment is not designed for them.
At ChildCare Foundation, we believe inclusion starts with understanding. Through our programs, we continue to advocate for inclusive education, community awareness, and support systems that allow every child regardless of ability to learn, grow and feel safe.
Because when we create environments that understand children, we don’t just change their experience we unlock their potential.
