In Uganda, many districts like Jinja, Iganga, and Mayuge, the sound of laughter and learning has been replaced by emptiness. With the third week of school closures, students are left without supervision, guidance, or the structure that classrooms provide.
School is more than lessons it is a safe space, a source of meals, and a foundation for children’s futures. Now, with classes suspended, many children roam the streets or remain idle at home, exposing them to risks such as accidents, early marriages, early labor, or exploitation. Vulnerable children, particularly from low-income or single-parent families, are hardest hit.
Parents across the region echo the same fear. Without access to learning, children risk falling behind academically and losing motivation altogether. The ongoing strike threatens to undo years of educational progress.

As CCF, we are taking action by organizing community learning sessions, mentorship programs, and skill-building activities to keep children engaged. But the scale of the problem calls for urgent attention from authorities to urgently work upon teachers demands to reopen schools and resume learning.
Education is more than exams it is hope, protection and opportunity. Eastern Uganda’s children cannot wait. Immediate action is needed to ensure they can continue their education without further disruption.
we believe every child deserves uninterrupted learning, especially during critical academic periods. Let’s work together to bring children back to classrooms and safeguard their futures.
